3D city models
3D city models are digital representations of the Earth’s surface and related objects belonging to urban areas[1] (like cities, factories, buildings[2] etc.). The modeling language for 3D city models is for example CityGML.
Applications
In recent years 3D city models have been used for many applications:
- to visualize the cities for various purposes (e.g. tourism, virtual tours),
- for urban planning[3],
- in navigation systems[4],
- in intelligent transportation systems[5],
- for noise modeling[6],
- large area thermographic inspections of buildings[7][8] (see also IR thermography ).
