Energinet.dk operates the 400 kV electricity transmission grid[3] and the gas transmission grid.[4] The company owns and operates also 132 kV[5] and 150 kV power grids ("Regionale Net") and the HVDC Great Belt Power Link, and it is a co-owner of the power interconnections with Sweden (Konti–Skan), Norway (Cross-Skagerrak) and Germany (Kontek).[6][7][8] A submarine power cable to the Netherlands is planned with TenneT.[9]
Energinet.dk has a 20% stake in Nord Pool Spot AS (the largest electricity market in the world),[10] and 50% of shares in the physical gas exchange Nord Pool Gas A/S (another shareholder is Nord Pool Spot).[11] It also owns a fiber-optic communication network and a gas storage facility, as well as a 20% stake[7] in European Market Coupling Company, a Central-West European cross-border electrical power trading joint venture due to begin operations on 9 November 2010.[12]
In 2009, 520 employees managed a total revenue of 9.17 billion DKK with a net profit of 456 million DKK.[13] Energinet.dk uses all profits from its share of area price differences to relieve tariffs. These profits were €70m in 2007, €77m in 2008, and €40m in 2009.[14]
An electrical consumption tax dedicated to supporting sustainable electricity producers in Denmark is administered by Energinet.dk.[15] For the first half year of 2010, this constituted 1.91 billion DKK for biomass, wind power and similar non-fossil power activities.[16]
In 2008, power transmission was 47 TW·h while gas transmission was 91 TW·h.[17]
