Ingrain, Inc. is a multinational digital rock physics laboratory. Co-founded in 2007 by Amos Nur, Ph.D. and Henrique Tono, Ph.D, Ingrain's imaging technology allows it to compute the physical properties and fluid flow characteristics of oil and gas reservoir rocks.

Historical Highlights

  • September 2007: Secures $5 million in venture capital funding from Energy Ventures of Norway.[1]
  • August 2008: Announces first international office in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.[2][3]
  • September 2008: Secures additional $15 million in a second round of venture capital funding.[4]
  • January 2009: Announces new Calgary office.[5][6]
  • September 2009: Secures $15 million in third round of venture capital funding.[7]

Analysis

Ingrain uses high resolution 3D imaging to create digital reservoir rocks it calls "vRocks." These 3D digital objects are formatted to allow computation of porosity, absolute permeability, electrical properties, elastic properties, relative permeability, capillary pressure, grain statistics and other petrophysical properties.[8]

International Presence

Although based in Houston, Ingrain has branches in Abu Dhabi, Rio de Janiero, and Calgary. Ingrain is currently expanding to Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia and has plans for a Denver office. North Africa is also a promising location.[citation needed]
