Mercuria Energy Group
The Mercuria Energy Group Ltd is one of the world's five largest independent energy traders located in Geneva, Switzerland. It deals with a wide spectrum of global energy markets including crude oil and refined petroleum products, natural gas, electric power, coal, biodiesel, vegetable oils and carbon emissions. In addition to its trading core, the company has upstream activities in California, Canada and Argentina, operates oil and products terminals in Europe and China, and owns a biofuels plant in Germany.
Until 2007, Mercuria was called the J&S Group[1] and focused mostly on oil trading. It has since branched out to trading power, gas, coal - hiring away traders from Electrabel[2]. Mercuria's 2007 revenue was US$23 billion[3], having tripled from $8.6 billion in 2005[4].
It has subsidiaries worldwide, e.g. Navitas Energy in Canada[5]. On November 3, 2010, Mercuria Energy Group Ltd bought MGM International Group from Morgan Stanley Capital Group Inc. and MGM International LLC[6].
