The Oil & Gas Journal was first published in 1902 and is the world's most widely read petroleum industry publication. The weekly is aimed at engineers, oil management and executives throughout the oil and gas industry with news, analysis, statistics, and technology updates important to the industry. PennWell Petroleum Group publishes the journal along with other titles geared toward the petroleum industry. The group is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the journal has a major presence in Houston, Texas.

Bob Tippee, the editor, appeared on the Washington Journal of C-Span on 06-04-2010 where he answered questions for 45 minutes from the host and public call ins. He said that the journal is available only by subscription and that the journal is on line at http://www.ogj.com/index/current-issue.html.
