The Shell Worksite Guide is intended as a tool for work teams to gain information specific to potential hazards associated with an activity they are planning to perform.

Hazards / Risks
- Getting caught between pipe or moving equipment
- Pinch points between flanges/equipment
- Improper lifting techniques
- Equipment damage from bumps
- Amputation/laceration of fingers in flange bolt holes
- Dropped objects
- Equipment failure
DOs
- Ensure workers understand hazards / line of fire.
- Use adequate pipe supports, insure adequate support of full length of pipe.
- Use proper alignment tools.
- Practice proper lifting, use mechanical means as required.
- Protect paint and coatings as possible.
- Position yourself and your extremities out of harms way.
- When working with equipment under a load, anticipate and plan for potential release of energy and resultant flying debris/tools.
- Get help for working/lifting the equipment if you are unsure if you can handle it.
DON'Ts
- Don’t place fingers between pipe sections or flanges.
- Don’t use flange bolt holes as a handle.
- Don’t attempt to lift more than 1/3 your body weight, or 50 lbs. whichever is less.
- Don't leave the workplace untidy; finish the job with proper housekeeping.
