He has a solid understanding of the seismic, subsea installation and production operations as well as topside rubber products. Ben Wait, Sales Manager – Offshore Construction, and Jorgen Sletten, Director of Innovation and Technology within Trelleborg Offshore & Construction, will address the issue of flow assurance, discussing why the need for dependable and efficient thermal insulation has never been more important for deep and ultra deep water developments. Wait has spent his career working in the offshore oil and gas sector and the last eight years with Trelleborg focusing on the commercial aspects of offshore architecture insulation systems. Sletten, who has also spent his entire career in the offshore oil and gas industry, is an expert in rubber insulation technologies and has been with Trelleborg for two and a half years. Bill Allan, European Oil & Gas Segment Manager within Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, will look at the approvals and standards that impact on polymer seals and how best these can be met in the offshore oil and gas industry. Allan has supported customers in specifying seals for offshore oil and gas applications for over 30 years, helping originate many industry-leading solutions for extremely difficult offshore environments. He has considerable experience of emerging markets, including Russia, Brazil and South Africa. Eric Bucci, Segment Manager for Oil & Gas Americas within Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, will focus on designing more effective sealing solutions using sealing-specific FEA techniques. Trelleborg strengthens position by acquiring syntactic foam business in UK
Leading global manufacturer of polymer and syntactic foam-based solutions for the offshore oil and gas industry, Trelleborg, has announced the acquisition of Ambler Technology Limited (ATL), a leading manufacturer of syntactic foam and composite products based in Rochdale, England. This investment comes after the company enjoyed one of its strongest years to date in 2012, and is part of the organization’s long-term strategy to invest in markets with encouraging growth potential. Founded in 1969 and having diversified from a traditional pattern making business into a manufacturer, processor and machinist of low density syntactic foam and composite solutions, ATL has vast experience across a wide range of applications including offshore oil and gas, aerospace, automotive and energy. The company, which employs 55 staff at its factory North of Manchester, had net sales of approximately SEK 50 M in 2012, with good profitability. “ATL, which has been a key supplier to Trelleborg and other leading players in this field for over 20 years, offers a range of ground-breaking low density syntactic solutions capable of performance at depths in excess of 7,000 MSW, and has a particular expertise in the fast-growing area of remotely operated vehicles,” commented Alan Burgess, Managing Director of Trelleborg Offshore U.K., within Trelleborg Offshore and Construction. “The acquisition of this established organization will allow Trelleborg to leverage the experienced industry specialists, application expertise and cutting-edge technology which ATL can bring to the table, to ensure we are best placed to support our customers, now and in the future.” Andrew Garside, Design and Innovation Director within Trelleborg Offshore and Construction, added: “As a company we are committed to differentiating our brand through long-term investment in innovation. We believe that this deal will complement our high-end buoyancy offering and further strengthen Trelleborg’s market leading position in the subsea buoyancy arena. “Furthermore, following the success in developing our innovative buoyancy clamping solution which we will launch at OTC Houston later this year, as well as our next generation bend protection solutions, we are confident that ATL will prove to be an innovative and fast moving addition to the Trelleborg Group portfolio.” ATL has recently agreed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Manchester University in a bid to further enhance its capabilities and develop business accelerating solutions for the oceanographic and intervention sector. As part of the arrangement, the company will look to create a center of excellence for advanced composites. -Ends- For additional information on Trelleborg Offshore solutions for all offshore and subsea markets, please call Ruth Clay, Direct: +18324568308, Mobile: +12817405755; ruth.clay@trelleborg.com.
